Health insurance is a bridge to health. It helps people access and afford quality health care when they need it. But having health insurance isn’t the full story. It’s also important to consider the health benefit design: the rules that govern how people can use their health insurance—which services are covered, which providers they can see, and how and when their coverage kicks in.

When these rules work better for certain groups of people than others, it perpetuates injustices.

By making it easier for all employees to access and use their health benefits, employers can create a more inclusive workplace—one that attracts and retains more diverse employees and nurtures a workforce that is physically and financially healthier than ever before.
